Are Smoothies Healthy Meals

I think we all have a pretty good understanding that trying to get yourself going in the mornings (not to mention getting the family going) is a feat in and of itself. Getting the lunch ready for the kids, feeding them breakfast, finding the keys, where are the shoes?, where is my homework?, blah, blah, blah….of course it is easy to forget to take care of yourself. How much time is left to actually create a healthy meal? Not much.

This had been my story for years. Yes, I could put in a quick pop-tart or grab a quick piece of toast with butter, and for many years I did. Until, I looked in the mirror and saw the pounds I'd gained by not taking care of myself. So I knew I had to do something different, and something that would stick for the long term. Unfortunately, not eating didn't work out so well, it only led to binge eating later on in the day and of course the traditional "food comma" or "sugar crash". So, what else could I do to help me get a quick meal and that I could vary enough so that I wouldn't get bored of it.

Well, as you may have guessed, I used smoothies and I haven't looked back since. Of course I still vary my breakfast, especially when I have a bit more time. But when I am on the run, I take a quick glance at my smoothie recipes and I find the one that appeals to me that day, and voiala, I have a quick and healthy breakfast in just a few minutes. Interestingly enough later on I even saw a show by Dr. Oprah and Dr. Oz where they shared his favorite morning smoothie drink. I even tried that drink and it was actually pretty good.

My point is simple, there is hope. Having a healthy smoothie several times throughout the week can make your life simpler and more importantly, healthier. I trust that this article encourages you to make that change in your life and it starts your days off with a yummy and energized meal. Blessings!
